It Starts With People: A Conversation with Amy Falk on 32 Years at Labor Systems
Published on 15 Sep 2025

It Starts with People
At Labor Systems, we believe that success begins and ends with people. For over 40 years, this philosophy has guided our work, shaped our culture, and fueled our growth. To celebrate this milestone, we sat down with Amy Falk, who has been with Labor Systems for an incredible 32 years.
Her story is a reminder that putting people first is not only the right thing to do — it’s also a winning strategy.
Starting the Journey
Amy’s career with us began almost by chance. While finishing her senior year of college, she temped through
Kelly Services and got her first taste of the staffing world. She worked with several agencies before meeting Labor Systems’ founder, Roger Jusseaume, who promised, “I’ll keep you challenged.”
He kept his word. From part-time sales to opening the first Tempe branch, Amy had her hands in every part of the business.
Why Staffing?
When asked what first drew her to staffing, Amy didn’t hesitate: “Every day is an adventure.”
Unlike industries confined to a single niche, staffing gave her a chance to connect with businesses of
all kinds and workers from every background. That variety has kept the work exciting for more than three decades.
Staying Motivated for 32 Years
For Amy, the key to longevity is empowerment. “We’ve always had the ability to think on our own and bring new ideas to the table.” That culture of trust and independence has fueled her motivation year after year.
The Industry Then and Now
Over three decades, Amy has seen the staffing industry transform — from paper files to app
s and automation. Yet one challenge has remained: balancing technology with the integrity of face-to-face interactions.
“Innovation meets integrity,” she says. It’s about adapting without losing the human connection that makes staffing meaningful.
Stories That Stick
One of Amy’s most memorable moments came years ago at the MCD office. A man from Ireland wal
ke
d in with his daughter and simply said: “I just need a job.”
He later returned with flowers, telling Amy that getting placed changed his life. “That’s when you know this work really matters.”
Building Relationships
Amy believes strong relationships are the backbone of staffing.
- With clients: find common ground.
- With workers: show respect. “You might be their only good morning of the day.”
It’s often the small, human gestures that build lasting trust.
People-Focused at the Core
What makes a staffing agency truly people-focused? For Amy, it’s simple:
- Providing snacks and water, even when budgets are tight.
- Putting company profits back into workers.
- Prioritizing worker safety above all else.
“Every worker should go home safely every night. That’s integrity.”
Living the Motto: It Starts With People
To Amy, our company motto isn’t just words. It means an open-door policy, being straightforward, and trea
ting people the way they want to be treated.
Lessons in Balance
Balancing business goals with people-first values comes down to staying grounded. Amy still spends time in the field, building relationships beyond transactions. “We’ve always been grass roots, and we stand by our services with an unconditional guarantee.”
Advice for the Next Generation
Her advice to newcomers in staffing? “Don’t let the position go to your head. Don’t separate yourself from the ‘small jobs.’ Get your hands dirty.”
Humility and connection are non-negotiable in this line of work.
What Keeps the Team Strong
Over 30+ years, Amy has seen many faces come and go. The secret to team strength? Empowerment. Offices are trusted to take ownership, get the work done, and support one another.
The Adventure Continues
When asked for one word to sum up her 32-year journey, Amy doesn’t hesitate: “Adventure. No two days are the same. It’s the reason I’m still here. In 32 years, I haven’t gotten bored yet.”
Closing Thoughts
Amy’s story reminds us why Labor Systems has thrived for 40 years: because it starts with people. From leader
ship and employees to clients and workers, it’s people who bring vision, resilience, and impact to life every single day.
Here’s to the next 40 years of putting people to work — and to the adventures still ahead.
